One of the things that really hit home for me was the saying about people with autism, if you've met one person with autism, you've met ONE person with autism. So it is with trans people. For Jo Rowling to make assumptions based on having met 1-2 trans women is ridiculous. If a man raised from childhood in a monastery met a twenty-two year old gymnast from Brazil, and a ninety year old Irish nun, how much would he understand about "the way women are" from that sample set? Answer - not very much.

I've been lucky enough to meet and become friends with several dozen openly trans men and women (and undoubtedly met many people who were not openly trans). I've met several people who are non-binary, and one person who told me they were biologically intersex.

I can extrapolate NOTHING about trans people, nonbinary or intersex people, except that they have a life that is unnecessarily harder than it should be, including the very real fear of bodily harm when using public bathrooms. I wish Ms. Rowling would come to understand there's a whole lot she doesn't know - and that cis women don't need to be defended from our trans and non binary sisters. #TranswomenAreRealWomen
