Re: the Tudors — both the show, and the history… It’s complicated. I have read historical takes on this in which Anne gave her parting speech about the “most gracious and gentle prince” with the strongest possible sarcastic twist. She undoubtedly DID feel guilty about her treatment of her predecessor, Katherine, and her predecessor’s daughter, Mary, and feared for her own daughter. Add in that she had suffered several miscarriages, the last only a few months before her execution; most female-bodied people are emotionally off-balance for months after a birth or miscarriage.
In any event, guessing what was in Anne’s head, then or now, is probably never going to be without different interpretations.
Re: white women and the patriarchy… It’s really hard to convince people to give up a system that benefits them, however unevenly, in favor of… what? What would an intersectional future where all voices were heard and valued, where power was shared, look like? Where are the models that show this working? We are asking people to give up the known for the unknown, and that’s always a hard sell. The unknown is ALWAYS scarier than “the devil you know.”
